Grand Bazaar of Istanbul on Google Maps.
Istanbul's Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world, with about sixty aisles housing over 4,000 shops selling everything: from food and clothing to spices and handicrafts. Beneath a vast canopy of roofs spanning a square area of approximately 4,000 square meters, including the peripheral structures with a central area covered by 15 large domes, the Grand Bazaar is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Istanbul. The oldest Byzantine structure, built in the 15th century, it initially served as a marketplace for fabrics and carpets from various parts of Asia. Today, more than 26,000 people who work there welcome approximately 400,000 visitors daily, especially during the summer months. The interior architecture, featuring wide corridors, columns supporting large domes, Moorish ornaments, and numerous kiosks some dating back to the 17th century where you can enjoy tea or coffee, is a popular meeting and refreshment point during the visit to the Grand Bazaar. Several entrances allow entry and exit from every side of the market, opening onto the outdoor extension with other shops, stalls and small restaurants. For visitors to Istanbul, the Grand Bazaar is an opportunity to discover and learn about local products such as spices, traditional musical instruments and the work of gold and precious stone artisans among fragrances, scents, sounds, and colors.
