Edinburgh on Google Maps.
The Old Town, dating back to the medieval era with several buildings renovated during the Protestant Reformation, is crossed by several important streets as the Royal Mile, a series of four streets (Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street, and Canongate) with pubs, shops, restaurants, and buildings of architectural interest. From the Royal Mile, secondary streets branch off down the hill in various directions with squares where markets were once held. Important buildings in the Old Town include the Museum of Scotland, the University of Edinburgh, and the Scottish National Library, a library boasting a collection of approximately 5 million books. However, the main tourist attractions are the colorful Victoria Street with shops, wine and whiskey tasting rooms and the Edinburgh Castle, which can be reached by a road that climbs the hill and begins at an abbey currently under restoration. Inside, visitors can visit the National War Museum, the Royal Jewels, the Royal Palace, the prisons and the Royal Apartments where are displayed the Crown Jewels. In the same room there is the Stone of Scone, where Scottish royalty was crowned. A city worth visiting especially at the end of a journey discovering Scotland's natural and historical beauties.
